So bleiben wir zu deinem Ruhm

Geduld im Kreuz uns lehre,

pour les bontés que tu nous as témoignées
dans la détresse et dans le danger,
pour nous avoir fait connaître
un nouveau temps de joie,

Nous voulons nous adonner à toi

O Dieu suprême, fais que notre année s’accomplisse
de sorte que sa fin soit semblable à son
commencement.
Que ta main se tienne près de nous,
pour qu’à la fin de l’année à venir,
inondés de bénédictions,
nous chantions comme maintenant un Alléluia.

Ah ! ta main, ta bénédiction doivent seules être l’alpha
et l’oméga,
le commencement et la fin.
Tu portes notre vie en ta main,
et nos jours sont écrits par toi ;
ton regard se pose sur la ville et sur le pays ;
tu comptes notre bien et connais nos souffrances.
Ah ! des deux, donne-nous ce que veut ta sagesse,
ce devant quoi s›incline ta miséricorde !

De même que tu donnes la noble paix
à notre corps et à notre situation,
donne à notre âme ta parole qui la rend heureuse.
Si ce salut nous est donné,
alors nous sommes bénis ici-bas
et élus dans l’au-delà

Pourtant, comme l’ennemi, jour et nuit,
veille à notre dommage
et veut perturber notre tranquillité,
veuille, ô Dieu, exaucer
ce dont nous te prions en notre sainte assemblée :

Ainsi demeurerons-nous, pour ta gloire,
le bien que tu as élu,
et pourrons-nous aussi, après croix et souffrances,
mourir pour accéder à la splendeur éternelle.

À toi seul l’honneur,
à toi seul la gloire ;
enseigne-nous la patience dans la croix,
règle toutes nos actions
jusqu’à ce que, dans la joie,
nous partions dans l’éternité du royaume des cieux,
pour une paix et une joie véritables,
semblables aux saints de Dieu.
En attendant, fais avec nous
selon ton bon vouloir :
c’est ce qu’aujourd’hui chante sincèrement
la cohorte des croyants,
désirant de la bouche et du cœur
une heureuse nouvelle année.

that its ending be like its beginning.
Your hand assists us,

Oh! your hand, your blessing alone must
be the alpha and omega, the beginning and the end.
You hold life in your hand,
and our days are conscripted by you;
your eye watches over city and land;
you tally our wellbeing
and recognize our suffering;

that which your mercy compels you.

In so much as you have granted a noble peace
to our body and situation
so leave the soul as well your sanctifying word.
When this salvation confronts us
so are we here blest

looks for our demise

so will you, O Lord God, hear
when we pray with the communion of saints:

trample Satan under our feet.

Thus we remain to your glory
your chosen possession
and can also, after cross and suffering,
depart from here unto glory.

Yours alone is the honor

Teach us patience in the cross,
govern all our deeds,
until we gladly depart
for the eternal kingdom of heaven,

just like one of God’s saints.
