Verleih uns Frieden gnädiglich,

Dieu, Esprit saint, toi, cher consolateur,
tu sais que la cité de Dieu persécutée
contient en elle-même le pire des ennemis,
au travers du danger que sont les faux-frères.
Donne à ton peuple d’être un seul esprit sur cette terre,
pour que, nous, les membres du corps du Christ,
nous soyons unis dans la foi et dans la vie.
Sois auprès de nous dans l’ultime détresse!
Le dernier ennemi fait alors irruption
et veut arracher le réconfort de nos cœurs;
fais-toi alors reconnaître comme notre secours.
Conduis-nous dans la vie, hors de la mort!

Terrasse l’orgueil boursouflé!
Réduis à néant tout ce qu’il a créé!
Fais qu’il soit d’un coup englouti dans l’abîme,
oppose-toi au déchaînement de sa puissance hostile,
fais que ses aspirations n’aboutissent jamais!

Ainsi ta Parole et la vérité se révéleront
et apparaîtront dans leur plus grand éclat,
lorsque tu veilleras sur ton Église,
lorsque tu feras fructifier et rendras bénéfique
l’enseignement de ta sainte Parole;
et si tu veux te tourner vers nous comme soutien,
alors, dans la paix,
ta bénédiction nous sera accordée en abondance.

Seigneur Dieu, dans ta grâce,
donne-nous la paix pour notre vie,
il n’y a vraiment personne d’autre
qui pour nous puisse combattre
si ce n’est toi, notre Dieu.
Donne à nos princes et aux puissants
la paix et un bon gouvernement,
pour que sous leur autorité
nous puissions mener une vie paisible et tranquille
en toute pitié et honnêteté.

But the most depraved enemy [Satan lying in wait] within it.
Give [us] your people [to be of] one mind on earth,
That we, members of the body of Christ [the church],
May be one in the [Christian] faith, at one in life.
Stand by us in the final [hour of] need.
At that time [this final hour] the final enemy [death] breaks in
And wants to part the comfort [of the Holy Spirit] from our hearts;
Yet, let us know you then as our helper.
Guide us out of death into [eternal] life.

[God,] topple puffed-up proud persons to the ground!
Annihilate what they have contrived!
Let the abyss suddenly swallow them up;
Bar the ranting of the inimical power [of the proud];
Do not let its [power’s] craving ever prosper.

Thus your word-and-truth becomes manifest
And presents itself in utmost radiance:
That you watch over [us] your church,
That you make the holy word’s teachings fruitful,
Unto the blessing [of eternal salvation];
And if you are willing to turn your hand to us as helper,
Then [this] blessing’s abundance consequently will be
Appointed to us in peace.

Grant us peace mercifully,
Lord God, in our times;
There is yet indeed not any other
Who could battle for us [your church]
