Ich traue seiner Gnaden,

Er wolle meiner Sünden
In Gnaden mich entbinden,
Durchstreichen meine Schuld!
Er wird auf mein Verbrechen
Nicht stracks das Urteil sprechen
Und haben noch Geduld.

Leg ich mich späte nieder,
Erwache frühe wieder,
Lieg und ziehe fort,
In Schwachheit und in Banden,
Und was mir stößt zuhanden,
So tröstet mich sein Wort.

Hat er es denn beschlossen,
So will ich unverdrossen
An mein Verhängnis gehn!
Kein Unfall unter allen
Soll mir zu harte fallen,
Ich will ihn überstehn.

Ich hab mich ihm ergeben
Zu sterben und zu leben,
Sobald er mir gebeut.

Dafür lass ich ihn sorgen;

mes soucis sont vains.
Il peut en faire de mes affaires

je les place en sa faveur.

Il ne peut rien m’arriver
d’autre que ce qu’il a prévu
et qui me rend heureux :
je le prends comme il le donne :
ce qu’il attend de moi,
je l’ai aussi choisi.

Je me fie à sa grâce,
qui me protège de tout dommage
et de tout mal.
Si je vis selon ses commandements,
rien ne pourra me blesser,
rien ne me manquera de ce dont j’ai besoin.

Qu’il veuille, dans sa grâce,
me décharger de mes péchés,
effacer ma faute !
De mon crime, il ne rendra
pas aussitôt le verdict,
et il prendra encore patience.

6. Aria
Que je me couche tardivement,
que je me réveille de bonne heure,
que je me repose ou que j’aille,
dans la faiblesse et dans les chaînes,
et quoi qu’il m’advienne,
sa parole me réconforte.

S’il en a ainsi décidé,
je veux sans mot dire
courir à ma perte !
Nulle épreuve parmi toutes
ne me sera trop dure,
je la surmonterai.

À lui je me suis livré
pour mourir et pour vivre,
si tôt qu’il le fixera.

je le laisse en prendre souci ;
il connaît le bon moment.

And something befalls me,
Then his word comforts me.

If he has determined it so,
Then I will go unwearily
About my [God-given] lot.
Not one mishap among them all
Shall come down too harshly on me;
I will endure it.

I have given myself up to him
To die and to live,
As soon as he commands me.
Be it today or tomorrow,
I will let him take care of that;
He knows the right time.
